What is collagen?

What types of collagen are there?
There are at least 16 types of collagen, but 80-90% of the collagen in your body consists of types I, II and III. Collagen types I and III are most abundant in your hair, skin and nails. Collagen type II provides the basis for cartilage and is an important component of bone and joint health.

Collagen is a long-chain amino acid composed of individual amino acids found in nature. It’s found exclusively in animal tissue, especially bones and connective tissue. Over time, the epidermic (outer) layer of skin experiences elastosis, when the skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity. After the age of 25, collagen production typically declines by about 1% every year. By ingesting collagen, your body’s own production of collagen will be stimulated. This can lead to improved texture and elasticity of the skin, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, healthier hair and stronger nails.
How does collagen impact my joints health?
